Camping California

More than a hundred of California's best campgrounds, from oceanfront bluff sites where the surf is loud enough to sleep through to desert boulder camps and boat-in coves you can only reach by paddle. Kirk Creek and Plaskett Creek hang over the Big Sur surf; Gold Bluffs Beach puts Roosevelt elk between your tent and the Pacific; Jedediah Smith and Humboldt Redwoods pitch you under thousand-year-old coast redwoods. Inland, Yosemite Valley, Tuolumne Meadows at 8,600 feet, Lodgepole beneath the sequoias, and Rock Creek Lake and Convict Lake in the Eastern Sierra anchor the alpine end, while D.L. Bliss, Emerald Bay's boat-in camp and Donner Memorial cover Tahoe. Filter by setting — beach, forest, mountain, desert, lake and river — by camp type from developed and RV through walk-in, backcountry, cabins, glamping, dispersed and boat-in, and by first-come and dog-friendly sites.
