Gravel & Bikepacking California

Gravel riding and bikepacking cover more California ground than any other discipline here. On the north coast, Usal Road and Mattole Road cross the Lost Coast, and the King Range and Humboldt redwood backroads run beneath 300-foot trees. Sonoma's King Ridge, Cazadero and the Geysers built the Grasshopper series and much of the modern American gravel scene with it. The Lost Sierra — Downieville, the Lakes Basin, Quincy and Sierra Valley — is now the state's gravel capital, with Truckee and the Tahoe Rim forest roads next door. East of the crest, White Mountain Road climbs to ancient bristlecones above 10,000 feet, and Bishop, Bodie and the Mono Basin open high-desert doubletrack. Marin's fire roads, where mountain biking was invented, and Big Sur's Nacimiento-Fergusson and Old Coast Road round it out. Filter by ride type, surface, terrain and camping.
