Hiking & Backpacking California

Over 110 trips on foot, filterable from a two-mile waterfall loop to a 211-mile thru-hike. Yosemite alone spans the Mist Trail, Clouds Rest, Cathedral Lakes, Upper Yosemite Falls and the cable route up Half Dome; the Eastern Sierra adds Mount Whitney at 14,505 feet, Little Lakes Valley, Big Pine Lakes and White Mountain Peak. The far north holds Fern Canyon's fern walls, the Trinity Alps' Canyon Creek Lakes, Lassen Peak, the steam vents of Bumpass Hell, and Burney Falls. Coastal walking runs from Point Reyes and Alamere Falls through Big Sur's Ewoldsen Trail to Montaña de Oro's bluffs and the Channel Islands. In the south, Cactus to Clouds gains over 10,000 feet in a day, San Jacinto rides a tram to the alpine, and Joshua Tree, Anza-Borrego and Sandstone Peak fill the desert. Filter by tier, permit, dogs and first-timer suitability.
