Mountain Biking California

Mountain biking was invented on Marin's fire roads in the 1970s, and California has been living up to that origin story ever since. Forty-two destinations, from the lift-served gravity parks at Northstar, Mammoth and Snow Summit to the Downieville Downhill's 5,000-foot shuttle descent, still the most famous point-to-point ride in the country. The Bay Area holds Soquel Demonstration Forest, El Corte de Madera, Annadel, China Camp and Henry Coe; Tahoe has the Flume Trail's lake-view traverse and Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. Southern California is a genuine winter destination — Noble Canyon, Cuyamaca, Laguna Coast, Whiting Ranch and the Santa Monicas ride best when the Sierra is buried. Farther out sit Kernville's Cannell Plunge, Mt. Hough above Quincy, Bidwell Park, Redding's network and Paradise Royale in the King Range. Filter by tier, beginner access, shuttles and rentals.
