OUTBOUND CALIFORNIA · ACTIVITY DEEP DIVE

Nordic Skiing & Snowshoeing California

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in California run from the largest groomed trail system in North America to volcanic backcountry with nobody on it. Royal Gorge on Donner Summit is the giant; Tahoe Donner, Tahoe Cross Country, Kirkwood, Northstar, Bear Valley and Spooner Lake fill out the groomed network, and the Auburn Ski Club and Clair Tappaan Lodge keep the old Sierra club tradition alive. Snow-sure meadow touring centers on Carson Pass, Hope Valley and Meiss Country, and Chickadee Ridge is the trail where mountain chickadees land on your outstretched hand. The national parks add what no resort can: groomed track past giant sequoias at Badger Pass, Crane Flat, Giant Forest and Grant Grove. Mammoth, Rock Creek and June Lake hold the deepest, driest snow, and Lassen and Shasta anchor the volcanic backcountry. Filter by activity, venue, rentals and beginner terrain.
