- The main winter gateway onto towering Mount Shasta — snowshoe and backcountry-ski from Bunny Flat through forest toward Horse Camp beneath the great volcano, in deep, reliable snow
- Terrain note
- ~6,950–8,000+ ft; ungroomed backcountry; deep, long-lasting snow
- Intl tip
- The main winter gateway onto towering Mount Shasta, at ~6,950 ft. From the plowed Bunny Flat trailhead, snowshoers and ski tourers climb through fir forest toward Horse Camp and the historic Sierra Club Alpine Lodge, gaining open slopes with staggering views of the glaciated summit. Higher slopes hold avalanche terrain, weather changes fast, it's remote — carry avalanche gear and the forecast, navigation, the ten essentials, and be conservative.
