- Gerstle Cove was one of California's first underwater parks, and the sandstone here — quarried for San Francisco's streets — weathers into lace-like tafoni honeycombs. Twenty miles of trail, a pygmy forest bench, and some of the state's best (permitted) mushroom foraging in fall.
