- Conditions
- A high-alpine launch on the Sierra crest between Reno and Lake Tahoe off the Mt. Rose Highway (~9,000+ ft). Strong mountain thermals with XC potential over the Carson Range and toward the Nevada desert.
- Ushpa
- P4/advanced recommended for high-alpine thermal XC. Altitude, strong conditions, and committing terrain. High-elevation launch requires appropriate glider and cold-weather prep.
- Intl tip
- Slide Mountain sits right on the California–Nevada line above Lake Tahoe — the launch offers one of the great views in the Sierra, with Tahoe on one side and the Nevada desert on the other. Combine with a Tahoe summer trip (the resort MTB and hiking from those guides are nearby).
