- Route notes
- The hardest of California's 14ers to stand on top of — the last one to be climbed (1931), it caps a glacier-and-couloir ascent with a genuine roped rock move up a detached summit monolith that turns most parties around
- Beta note
- ~14,003 ft; Class 4 to the block, then a 5.8–5.9 move (often aided/lassoed) to the true summit
- Intl tip
- The last of California's 14ers to be climbed (1931) — and still the one that most denies climbers the summit. The peak is a class-4 glacier-and-couloir climb, but the true top is a detached monolith needing a roped ~5.8–5.9 move (often protected by lassoing it) that many strong parties skip. It anchors the celebrated Thunderbolt-to-Sill traverse. Committing, high-consequence terrain — bring glacier and rock skills, and the humility to turn around below the block.
